Our History

The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) was created in 1979 by a group of metro-Atlanta parents who wanted to provide support and education to one another and to other families of children with Down syndrome.   DSAA was designated 501 (c)(3) non-profit status by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 1985.  DSAA is incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of Georgia.

For most of its history, DSAA conducted business through the use of volunteers and contractual staff.  In 2008 DSAA hired its first employees:  an Executive Director and an Executive Assistant.

In November 2008, DSAA celebrated its 30th Anniversary at a Gala Banquet and Dance.
