Social/Fun Events of the DSAA

Each year DSAA sponsors events to bring parents, families and individuals with Down syndrome together in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Some of these events include:

Valentine's Dinner and Dance

The DSAA hosted a Valentine’s Dinner and Dance on Saturday February 10, 2007 at Unity North Atlanta Church in Marietta. 65 people attended representing 17 families of the DSAA. Tom Wolf provided live Music, and a delicious all you can eat BarBQ buffet was catered by Williamson Brothers. Tickets to the Atlanta Thrashers and Atlanta Hawks were raffled off as door prizes. Children of all ages enjoyed music, dancing and making Valentine cards and crafts. A special appearance by the 2006 Buddy of the Year, Patrick Essen was a real treat! A special thank you to the following volunteers who helped with registration, set-up, and clean-up: Stefanie Baumblatt, Russ & Cara Plugge, Jim & Michelle Norweck, Alyssa & Morgan Allen, William McKeithen, and the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter Teen Advisory Board.


DSAA’s Family Holiday Party and Annual Meeting

On December 9, 2006 over 300 individuals representing 61 families attended the Annual Holiday Party hosted by Creekside United Methodist Church. Co-chairs, Diane Bromelow and Lauren Biggs along with the help of over 30 "elf" volunteers created a winter wonderland environment complete with Santa Claus and a special performances by the Tracy Davison Voice Studio Singers and Daniel Skandera, an 34 year old with Down syndrome and professional Marimba player. Children of all ages enjoyed hot cocoa, cookie decorationg, arts and crafts and a reading by Santa of the Polar Express. The RVI Club at Etowah High School, directed by teacher Bill McElderry made a check presentation from their annual "dimes for downs" fundraiser to DSAA Executive Director, Michelle Norweck. Dale Greig, DSAA Co-President received the Presidential Recognition Award for his outstanding service and dedication to the DSAA for the years 2004-2006. Mark your calendars for more holiday fun on December 15, 2007.

Family Luau

ALOHA FUN! The 4th Annual Spring Luau will be held at Lake Lanier Islands Beach & WaterPark on May 17, 2008. Come join the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta for a fun day in the sun at Lake Lanier Islands to kick off the start of summer. Activities include Cook out, DJ, socializing, dancing and use of the water park. Why miss this fun event?

The Larry Bregman Educational Conference and Dance

Every year in March, DSAA sponsors a dance in conjunction with the Bregman Educational Series. Click here for more info and pictures.
