Advocacy

The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) strives to keep members informed about disability related issues at the local, state, and national level so that those who want to submit comments to policy makers can do so.  The Advocacy Committee maintains an email list of those who wish to receive this information on a regular basis.  In addition, DSAA is a co-sponsor of Disability Day at the State Capitol each February and participates in other activities sponsored by the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities.  DSAA also strives to keep members informed about Medicaid Waivers, and in particular the Katie Beckett/Deeming Waiver.

In 2009 DSAA joined a Down Syndrome Southeast Region Council (DSSERC) to work with Down syndrome organizations from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to better coordinate services to individuals and families in the Southeast region.
