EducationThe Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) has two major educational inititatives: conferences and Down Syndrome Specialists. HISTORY The Fall Conference in 2008 was a larger Regional Conference with many out-of-the area speakers like Dr. Brian Skotko. The Spring Conference 2009 featured Dr. Nathan Call from the Marcus Autism Center, who shared information about behavior issues. The Fall Conference 2009 featured Dr. Cynthia Jones and Melanie Leyva-Abad and focused on reading. The Spring Conference 2009, offered a second track at the conferences focusing on the needs of new parents. In September of 2010, DSAA co-sponsored with DownsEd International, a two-day conference on various aspects of the education of individuals with Down Syndrome. In the spring of 2011, DSAA partnered with the State Bar of Georgia to bring a Wrightslaw Conference to our area. The spring conference of 2012 focused on current medical and pharmacological research that deals with individuals with Down syndrome. In addition, DSAA has in the recent past offerend a "New Parent" seminar in the spring and fall of each year.
