Education

The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) has two major educational inititatives:  conferences and Down Syndrome Specialists.

A Spring Conference and a Fall Conference are offered each year; the Fall Conference in even numbered years (2008, 2010, etc.) is a larger Regional Conference.  The Spring Conference 2009 featured Dr. Nathan Call from the Marcus Autism Center, who shared information about behavior.  The Fall Conference 2009 featured Dr. Cynthia Jones and Melanie Leyva-Abad and focused on reading.  Starting with the Spring Conference 2009, DSAA now offers a second track at the conferences focusing on the needs of new parents.

DSAA started a Down Syndrome Specialists program in 2008.  This program provides support and education to school personnel who work with students with Down syndrome.
