Other Awareness ActivitiesThe Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA)holds conferences and social events at a variety of public venues. As our families come together to have fun and learn from one another, our presence in the community provides visibility. All of us encounter people who tell us that they "never knew anybody with Down syndrome," or that they "know nothing about Down syndrome." Every one of us has numerous opportunities to educate the public about the potential of the individuals we love. DSAA started "Down Syndrome Awareness Nights" in 2009. Chili's and Roasters' restaurants in Alpharetta were the first two community leaders to join us. Chili's in Alpharetta is the site for Down Syndrome Awareness Night on the third Tuesday of every month. Members of DSAA are invited to attend. Brochures about Down syndrome and DSAA are available for other diners. Everyone learns about Down syndrome, shares a meal, and Chili's donates a percentage of the receipts for the night to DSAA. Any DSAA member who is interested in starting a "Down Syndrome Awareness Night" at a local restaurant should contact DSAA's Awareness Director(s) at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). |
